Kahawahan (Tausug coffee shop)

Tausug public coffee establishment, structurally analogous to Yemeni maqha, Ottoman kahvehane, Levantine qahwa, and Malay kedai kopi. Male-coded morning-and-daytime gathering place for talk, informal commerce, and small social adjudication. Likely predates local coffee cultivation in Sulu (Hain reconstruction, Speculative): if the word kahawa was in Tausug by the early modern period, then imported coffee would have been consumed in some institutional setting before 1864.
