Sulu Robusta (Coffea canephora, Kahawa Sūg)

Also known as: Kahawa Sug, Sulu coffee

1864-present Sulu Archipelago, 300-800m elevation

Heritage cultivar of Coffea canephora (Robusta) introduced to Sulu by Herman Leopold Schück in 1864. Naturally rust-resistant; survived the 1889 Hemileia vastatrix epidemic that destroyed the Arabica plantations of Batangas and Cavite. Listed in Slow Food Ark of Taste.
