Riverine border — top

The Waters Between Islands

Philippine rivers carried more than water—they carried commerce, diplomacy, and the seeds of the barangay system. The ilog was axis and artery both. This section has a .riverine-border-top pseudo-element above it.

Inline ripple — .riverine-ripple

The Pasig once ran clear enough to drink from. The Cagayan remains the longest river in the archipelago. The Agusan drains a valley older than memory.

With river bottom

Cagayan River

Pampanga River

Flows through Central Luzon. Historically linked to the kapampangan culinary tradition via its fishpond and river-harvest culture.

Watermark — .riverine-watermark + .riverine-border below

“The barangay was not a village, but a boat—a community in motion, following rivers and coasts, carrying its gods and its dead and its seeds.”

— William Henry Scott, Barangay, 1994
